Set up leave categories

Updated over a week ago

Leave categories allow you to define different categories of time off. This provides additional information about the type of leave the user has taken off and can be included in your reports. For instance, you may want to track if a user is taking off annual paid holiday or leave taken off for jury service. You can also specify whether a leave category should result in leave days being deducted from a user's leave balance.

To manage leave categories, go to Settings->Leave, and you will see the list of leave categories on the Common Settings page.

Leave calendar visibility

Each leave category can have it's calendar visibility restricted. These restrictions do not apply to the individual's own calendar, but rather to the leave calendar section which shows all employees (or a limited set depending on the viewer's permissions). The following options are available:

Standard View

Leave bookings associated with this category are visible on the leave calendar, along with the category name.

Private unavailable
Leave bookings associated with this category are shown on the leave calendar, however the description of the category is not shown. This allows you to have multiple categories (for example, to relate to different medical leave) without showing the specific category.

Hidden
Leave bookings associated with this category are hidden from the leave calendar entirely.

Requires approval

When ticked, leave bookings against this calendar will not need to undergo an approval process. Please note that if this ticked, however a user has the permission to approve their own leave bookings, their bookings will not require approval. This setting only applies to users who do not have permission to self-approve their leave bookings.

Deduct from main leave balance

When set to true, leave bookings agains this category will deduct from the user's leave balance. Creating leave categories with this option unticked is useful for tracking events in the leave calendar which do not affect the user's actual leave booking, for example team event days, where worker's are absent from the office but technically working.
